Practice Placements at a Glance:
Our apprenticeship thrives on the practical experience gained through clinical placements, immersing apprentices in real healthcare settings.
Each apprentice must complete a minimum of 1000 hours of clinical placements to qualify for HCPC registration, contributing to their growth as future healthcare leaders.
While we aim to provide a variety of placements, including traditional MSK, Neuro, and Cardiorespiratory, the focus is on encompassing inpatient, outpatient, and community settings to nurture a well-rounded skill set.
Placements extend beyond the clinic, covering the 4 pillars of physiotherapy practice: Education, Leadership, Clinical, and Research, enriching our apprentices’ understanding and expertise.
BSc placements span six weeks, while MSc placements extend to eight to nine weeks, offering a dedicated time frame for applying theoretical knowledge.
By offering a range of diverse clinical placements, your organisation contributes to shaping the future of physiotherapy practice.
Mutual Support and Collaboration:
While apprentice students currently do not receive the same tariff payments as standard BSc or MSc students, your organisation’s reciprocal offers, and support are instrumental in providing valuable clinical experiences.
Understanding the constraints, apprentice students do not claim travel expenses for placements from NHS England. Open communication regarding any reimbursement discussions between the apprentice and your organisation ensures a collaborative approach.
Host Organization/NHS Trust Benefits:
Your organisation plays a pivotal role in facilitating placement organisation, either internally or through collaboration with local trusts and providers.
Collaboration strengthens the learning experience, and by offering placements, your organisation actively contributes to the development of skilled and capable healthcare professionals.
As part of the apprentice contract, your support in providing equivalent placements when an apprentice undergoes an external placement ensures a fair and balanced learning experience for all apprentices.
Avoiding conflicts of interest by placing apprentices outside their regular work teams fosters a supportive and enriching learning environment.
The CSP recommends at least one placement outside the employer to enhance apprentices’ skills and explore best practices in different settings, providing valuable insights for your organisation.
Your organisation’s commitment to collaboration and support not only facilitates a successful learning journey for our apprentices but also contributes to the growth and excellence of the broader healthcare community and workforce planning pipeline.
We invite you to join us in creating a future where healthcare education is a collective endeavour
